Thorax Dun - Marinaro Style

No comments yet

The Thorax Dun a la Vincent Marinaro from “The Modern Dry Fly Code”
This is a fly designed for selective trout that have keyed onto duns. The wings and their silhouette on the surface are the main focus. The X pattern of the hackle is to ensure the wings and the fly ride level on the water.
I deviated from the book method in two ways. First, I used burnt wings and second I tied the tail in using a different method.
The tail tying method is from Eric Austin. Here is a link to that method.

Here is his video on the pattern.

Here are other videos of the pattern better than mine.

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
See more details about what you can do to help in this blog post.

The Global FlyFisher was updated to a new publishing system early March 2025, and there may still be a few glitches while the last bits get fixed. If you meet anything that doesn't work, please let me know.
