Italian fly tyer Stefano Farkas regularly sends me pictures of his beautiful, full dressed salmon flies. Here's another batch from him.
We have featured the stunning work of Italian fly tyer Stefano Farkas before. His classic salmon flies are large and impressing, and I'm lucky enough to be on Farkas' radar, so he sends me a mail with pictures of his latest creations with regular intervals.
This article features the fly pictures he sent since we published the first article, and again shows the immaculate craftsmanship that Farkas puts into his flies.
These are all tied on large hooks - 10/0 to be exact, and these are Harrison & Bartleet 10/0 hooks, hand made by Ronn Lucas Sr. - which calls for some exquisite materials and not least some killer tying skills.
This article shows a couple of flies: a Phoebus Variant and The Nepenthian. It also shows the classic of all classics: the Jock Scott, and as Farkas writes:
Probably you will judge me reckless to dare to change the Jock Scott, which is considered the icon of the Victorian age classic salmon flies.
But I did not change it, I think: please consider this fly as a study of this monument.
Only a few words: I have been very impressed by the Shannon from Francis Francis. On my point of view it's a beautiful fly with many interesting issues and I am interpreting again some famous flies on the same concept, as with the Green Highlander I already sent to you.
In the case of the Jock Scott, body of the same colour as the original but in a different style and then, as far the wings are concerned, I still used married strips but as a veiling, substituting the blue strip with a full feather wing of B&Y macaw as main wing.
Last but not the least: the hook is a Harrison & Bartleet 10/0 made by Ronn Lucas Sr.
